Who is Johnny Mulcahy?

Johnny is a New York City–based singer-actor currently completing his Master of Music in Vocal Performance (Classical Voice) at NYU Steinhardt, with graduation in Spring 2026.  Classically trained, Johnny is a versatile vocalist whose repertoire spans opera, legit musical theatre, and jazz.

During his time at NYU, Johnny appeared as Leo in Nancy Drew: The Mystery at Spotlight Manor, a workshop production directed by Alan Menken and James Lapine. Additional credits include Alcindoro in La Bohème (Act II) as part of NYU’s Opera Gala and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus. He will appear as Modern Major General Stanley in Pirates of Penzance in Spring 2026.  He will also give his Master’s Recital on April 26th.

Johnny earned his undergraduate degree in Music from Skidmore College, where he performed alongside the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra.  Performance highlights include Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), Masetto (Don Giovanni), and the Prologue in (Turn of the Screw).

In addition to performing, Johnny has extensive experience in musical direction and ensemble leadership. In 2024, he music directed and conducted A Year with Frog and Toad, co-produced with director Josh Lucey to create youth theatre opportunities on Skidmore’s campus. He also served as music director of The Skidmore Dynamics a cappella group for three years, leading the ensemble to win Best Overall Group Performance and Best Repertoire at the 2024 Thruway Competition at Proctors Theatre.
