Recent and Upcoming Projects
Johnny appeared as Leo in the workshop production of the new musical Nancy Drew: The Mystery at Spotlight Manor, performing alongside Olivier Award winner Lesli Margherita and Will Swenson. The project was directed by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner James Lapine, with music direction by Emmy Award winner and Grammy-nominated Michael “Koz” Kosarin, and features a score by EGOT winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Olivier Award winner Nel Benjamin, and a book by Academy Award winner Sarah Kernochan.
This past May, Johnny graduated with his Master’s Degree in Music with a concentration in Classical Vocal Performance from NYU Steinhardt. Johnny was selected to perform at graduation as a part of the Steinhardt Singers, a group of 8 students from the graduating class spanning across Undergraduate, Master’s, and PHD/DMA students within the vocal performance concentration. The group performed at the NYU Steinhardt Doctoral Convocation at the Jack H. Skirball Center for Performing Arts, NYU Steinhardt’s Graduation at Radio City Music Hall, and the NYU All College Commencement at Yankee Stadium. Furthermore, upon graduating, Johnny received the departmental award for “Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Vocal Performance: Classical,” for which one student from the graduating class is chosen.
This summer, Johnny appeared as the titular role, Billy Bigelow, in Hawaii Performing Arts Festival’s production of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s Carousel. The production was directed by Kathleen Smith Belcher and music directed by Justin John Moniz. At the festival, Johnny was a member of their “Developing Singer Program” and made guest appearances at various concerts and masterclasses throughout the festival.
